She skimmed through the shallows, the sunlight filtering from above through the surface of the water and reflecting down into the coral in little beams. The fish darted in and out of openings in the coral. She could feel the rhythm of the waves above, rocking the waters in which she floated. Her hair swirled around, creating a while cloud in the turquoise water around her.
She knew the shallows were dangerous, but tonight, she was risking it. There had been talk of a fire spectacle in the sky of the humans. The likes of which her people in the depths below had not seen for quite some time. She waited for the sun to go down, hidden amongst the coral in the shallows.
As the depths became murky with night, she could see the changes in light in the sky above. She pushed herself up and began to swim towards the surface. Suddenly, there was a disruption in the feel of the waters around her. An unexpected object had entered. Turning, she saw the body of a human slowly sinking.
