Her fingers drummed against the wood of the desk. The occasional tip-tap of fingernail on wood interrupted the rhythm every now and again. She tried to avoid her nails making contact, to keep her fidgeting from drawing attention. Outside the tall, arched windows, the sky was a radiant blue. The grass beginning to brown with the coming of autumn. Whispy white clouds flitted across the sky, veiling the sun for only the briefest of moments. Being indoors, she could only imagine, but she imagined how wonderful the briskly chill air would feel on her up-turned face in combination with the warmth of the sun radiating down upon her.
A dragon soared across the sky, it’s red scaled gleaming like rubies in the sunlight. It’s wings turned an iridescent, warm, radiating amber whenever it passed before the sun. She would give anything to fly along, on it’s ridged back, than be stuck in here, listening to the meeting drone on and on and on.
A little boat appeared, sailing along through the sea of tall grass. It was being chased by a sea serpent A pair of turquoise and lavender mermaids dove in and out of the sea of tall grass, chasing the sea serpent with glowing silver tridents.
A throat clearing snapped her back to the room in which she sat. “I’m sorry,” she said, “could you please repeat that?”
The man barely contained his eyeroll and said: “I was asking if you had anything to the budget meeting? The one you called?”
Her cheeks reddened; she did hate how her mind wandered at times. “Oh… right. Yes,” she cleared her own throat, flipping a few pages in her clear plastic binder, “if you turn to page twenty-three, I’ll walk us through these diagrams…”
