Papers were flying everywhere. Drawers were opening and slamming shut. Others were left ajar, hanging precariously on their drawer slides. Copia slouched onto his knees, leaning his head against the wooden desk. The trouble with inheriting someone’s office, was that one also inherited their organization system. Or in this case, the lack thereof. He sat back on his heels, rubbing his temples.

There was a knock on the door frame. “Um, sir?” came a soft voice. Copia sat up on his knees to see his secretary standing in the doorway. There was a folder clutched in her hands as she looked timidly around the room. He stood, stifling the groan as his knees popped.

“Yes, Sister?”, smoothing his trousers nervously. “How can I help?”

“I believe it is I who can help you, sir,” she said. She took a few steps into the office, leaned over the desk, and held out the folder in her hands.

Copia reached up, taking the folder from her. “And what is this?” he asked, opening it a crack and flipping through some pages.

“The quarterly schedule, sir. Your brother usually had me prepare a first draft for him around this time each year. Given you are new to the post, I still went ahead and prepared it for you.” She fidgeted with her finger tips, watching him.

He stared at the documents, this is exactly what he had been tasked with doing. The exact thing he had been dreading compiling. The very thing he was struggling to find the information for to do. He looked up at her, gratitude flooding through her. He wasn’t sure how she had known this was what he had been looking for, needing, if she even had, or if she just happened to be the best-timed creature on the planet. She was truly a savior, an angel.

“I… I hope I did not over step, sir,” she was saying, causing him to realize he had been silent for an awkward amount of time.

“No, no, no!” He shook his head hastily, waving his hands to emphasize. “Apologies, Sister… uh, Beatrice, was it?” She nodded, a little smile appearing. He knew some of his brothers had not bothered to remember the names of their members of staff. “This is perfect, absolutely perfect. You may have just saved my life.”
